In 2004, Congress enacted the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) to provide an avenue for current and retired law enforcement officers to qualifiy annually to carry concealed firearms while traveling from state to state. We are offering this certification for qualified retired law enforcement personnel. The process takes approximately 2 hours and the cost is $100 per person and an additional $20 to qualify with a second firearm.
You must bring your Retired Law Enforcement ID/firearms card and state ID with current address. A “Concealed Carry Acknowledgement Form” must be obtained from the MPOETC website and the top portion filled out and submitted at the time of qualification.
You must also compete the Morr Range Waiver form.
Retired officers shall bring at least 60 rounds for each firearm including up to 10 rounds for sight familiarization and 50 rounds for qualification. Eye and ear protection is required. At least two magazines will be needed for semi-auto handguns and one speed loading device for revolvers.
To qualify you must score at least 75%. You will be firing at distances of 2-15 yards with both strong and support hands. You will qualify using the course provided by the agency you retired from or a course following the guidelines put forth by MPOETC.
Note: No Re-loads - Bring all the same type of factory ammunition. We are required to record the Firearm make and model and type of ammunition you will carry. If you want to carry more than one firearm under this authorization you must qualify with each firearm for an additional cost of $20/firearm.
For range safety, retired officers will not qualify using a cross draw holster, ankle holster, or shoulder holster. You can use any type of holster that you wish once you are off the range. Your hip holster must fit the firearm you are using.
